Is the Governing Body overdue to make new appointments?
by cedars ini'm doing some research for a new blog article on the governing body.
it's in a question-and-answer or "faq" format, and attempts to give simple but well-founded answers to most questions that people could conceivably ask about the governing body.. one thing i noticed when looking at the history of the governing body is that we seem to be in the middle of a lengthy "dry spell" when it comes to making new appointments.. gerrit losch is currently the longest-serving member having been appointed in 1994. however, his appointment came at the end of a 17 year period in which no appointments were made.
this contrasts notably with the remarkable six-year period between 1971 and 1977 when 15 members were added.. since losch's appointment, 4 members were added in 1999 (herd, lett, pierce and splane) and 2 more recently in 2005 (morris and jackson).. the seven year spell since the last appointments were made has seen the deaths of barber, barr, jaracz, shroeder and sydlik - cutting the number of governing body members almost in half.

by sd-7 inlooks like it's fun.
there's a cool story in there about how a ministerial servant got deleted for playing violent video games, and then wrote to the branch office about it and told people in his congregation.

On the day of baptism, just one question asked?
Finally, on the day of baptism, each candidate is asked, “On the basis of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, have you repented of your sins and dedicated yourself to Jehovah to do his will?” Thus, in front of witnesses, these new ones say Yes respecting their promise to serve God forever.

- On the basis of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, have you repented of your sins and dedicated yourself to Jehovah to do his will?
- Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in association with God’s spirit-directed organization?

The great unanswered question - WHO chose the Governing Body to serve as representatives?
by cedars inwho is the governing body?.
put simply, the governing body purports to be a small group of anointed men (currently numbering 7) who represent a much larger group (numbering the thousands) of anointed individuals living on earth today.
in nearly every reference to their position of oversight over the worldwide brotherhood, the governing body refer to themselves as being representatives.... .

They are obsessed with governing and ruling so much, they forgot to be the "leading ones".
“LEADING ONES”: THE GREEK WORD HEGOUMENOIS IN HEBREWS 13:17
Again, we must confront the context in order to arrive at the definition to be attached to the Greek word hegoumenois. Should this word be interpreted as “ruler” or “leader’? William Edwy Vine's (1873-1949) comments are very informative in dealing with this word hegoumenois.
Vine calls attention to the fact that the noun hegemon came to be applied to a governor. But the verb hegemoneuo means to “lead the way.” The translations that I have consulted, except the KJV, employs the word leaders, not rulers. In classical Greek a hegemon was a “guide” who showed one the way or “one who did a thing first.” It might also be a “leader” in the army of a chief or king. Josephus used the word to describe a “procurator” or “prefect” (Antiquities 18.3.1 ).
One thing they for sure were not: A supra-national, governing body with a world-wide reach.

They elected themselves to that position, a theological concept they believed in for a very long time.

Skirts and trousers (pants if you're in the US)
by Chariklo injust what is it that the watchtower thinks is so much more modest and respectful to jehovah about wearing a skirt instead of trousers?
that is, unless you live in a culture that has trousers as the norm for women, as in india.. something today brought this to my mind.
i can't even remember what it was, but it led to thinking again about this.
